Official Records, Recording, Marriage Licenses, Passports


Documents to be recorded in the Official Records Department include: deeds, mortgages, assignments, leases, bills of sale, agreements, notices or claims of liens, notices of levy, tax warrants, final judgments, encroachments, and other instruments relating to the ownership, transfer, or encumbrance of or claims against real or personal property or any interest in it. The department also serves as a collection agent for the Florida Department of Revenue. It is the duty of the department to collect the required documentary and intangible taxes on documents such as deeds and mortgages. The department also records certain types of court documents, military service documents, constructions liens, declarations of domicile, and federal instruments.

Included in the Official Records department is the Marriage and Passport section. This section takes passport applications and issues marriage licenses and performs marriage ceremonies, as well as assisting customers in obtaining passports. Marriage license applicants are required to read the Marriage Handbook and affirm that they have read it when applying for a marriage license. There is a three day waiting period to obtain a marriage license if you have not completed an approved marriage preparation class. Please call for details
