Polk County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller Hosting 7th Annual Valentine’s Day Wedding

Bartow, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2020) – Come one, come all! Registration is open for courting couples wanting to tie the knot on the most romantic day of the year.

Beginning at noon on Valentine’s Day, Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller Stacy M. Butterfield is hosting the 7th annual group marriage ceremony on the picturesque steps of the Polk County History Center.

“Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite days of the year,” stated Clerk Butterfield. “The Valentine’s Day wedding is something that brings joy to the customers we serve, so it stands out as a special event for me, my team, and everyone involved.”

Following the ceremony, couples and their guests are invited to join a reception with light refreshments provided by local sponsors in the vintage 1926 courtroom.

“Planning a wedding can be a stressful thing for couples. The Valentine’s Day wedding is a great way for couples to enjoy a stress-free celebration,” said Clerk Butterfield. “All the planning is done for them. All the couples have to do is show up with their marriage license. We handle the paperwork and the planning, and they are free to enjoy their special day together. It’s all the frills with none of the fuss!”

The ceremony is limited to 30 couples and registration is first come, first served. Couples may register when applying for a marriage license at any of the three Clerk’s office locations—the Bartow Courthouse, Lakeland Government Center, or the Northeast Government Center in Winter Haven. To register, they simply need to state they would like to participate in the event. All couples must apply for a marriage license by Tuesday, Feb. 11, in order to participate in the Valentine’s Day wedding.

Couples must both be present to apply for their license, and both must have a valid form of photo ID. Couples must also make sure they know their Social Security Number. The Clerk is waiving the $30 ceremony fee; however standard marriage license fees do apply.
