to the Polk County Clerk of Court's & County Comptroller web site.  Polk County's Clerk of Courts has three major responsibilities: Clerk of the Circuit and County Courts; County Recorder; and Clerk, Accountant and Auditor to the Board of County Commissioners. The Clerk of the Circuit Court is the ex-officio Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, auditor, recorder and custodian of all County funds. The Clerk is the chief financial officer for the County and serves as the County comptroller and treasurer. As Clerk to the Board, the office maintains all records pertaining to official County activities. This includes minutes of the County Commission Board meetings, copies of ordinances and all other official County documents. As Accountant and Auditor to the Board, the Clerk is charged with keeping records and making required reports of all monies received and disbursed by the Board. The Clerk is also responsible for investing surplus county funds.  We hope you take the time to learn more about us.

SR 60/U.S. 98 Intersection Improvement Project
Work Week Starting May 13, 2012

SR 60 (Van Fleet Dr.) from west of US 98/Broadway Ave. to west of US 17 (SR 555):  Construction project – The improvements under this contract consist of reconstruction and widening to convert the existing SR 60 and US 98 intersection in Bartow from asphalt to concrete and provide additional travel lanes. The scope of work includes concrete pavement, asphalt milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, sidewalk, lighting, signalization, signing and pavement marking and landscaping. No lane closures are scheduled on State Road 60 (Van Fleet Drive) or US 98 from Sunday, May 13 through Saturday, May 19. However, one lane of southbound Wilson Avenue due north of SR 60 is scheduled to be closed after 7:00 pm on Monday, May 14 for signal work. Work on new travel lanes, turn lanes, sidewalks and drainage continues behind barrier walls along northbound US 98 from SR 60 to south of Manor Drive, and along westbound SR 60 from Wal-Mart Drive to US 98. With the Fort Fraser Trail entrance off of westbound SR 60 closed due to construction and a trail bridge over Bear Creek scheduled to be closed for about two weeks starting on Monday, May 14 for repairs by Polk County Parks & Recreation, people should access the trail at Old Bartow/Eagle Lake Road. Access to businesses in the work zone is being maintained and motorists are advised to use caution and watch for workers. Traffic Fine Payments Can Be Made at Amscot


Traffic fine payments can now be made at any of Amscot’s 174 branches, located in 15 counties.  Amscot has 12 branches in Polk County, to include Bartow, Winter Haven, Lake Wales, Auburndale, Lakeland and Haines City.  Two 24-hour locations are available, at 111 Cypress Garden Boulevard in Winter Haven and at 614 E. Memorial Boulevard in Lakeland.
           
Customers need only to bring in their payments and a record of their traffic infraction.  Amscot charges a $2.50 convenience fee for the service.  Amscot collects and aggregates the funds and automatically transfers them into the Clerk of Court’s accounts.”

Online Foreclosure Sales to Begin


Richard M. Weiss, Clerk of the Circuit Court & County Comptroller, is pleased to announce the launch of an online foreclosure sale website.   Live foreclosure sales currently held in the Polk County Courthouse in Bartow will switch to the online system with the first electronic sale scheduled for September 21, 2010.

Volunteering at the Clerk's Office


The Clerk's Office is looking for professional, high-spirited volunteers at least 16 years old to help staff with customer service, answering phones, filing, mail distribution, greeting, and other basic office duties.

Criminal Records Online Now Available


Richard M. Weiss, Clerk of the Circuit Court & County Comptroller, is pleased to announce a new public service available via the Internet.

"For the first time in Polk County, criminal case information will be available to the public on the Clerk's website.  Employers and the general public will be able to perform criminal records checks for Polk County cases", Weiss said.  He added, "Attorneys will have access to case information, saving them a phone call or trip to the courthouse."

Felony, County and Municipal Ordinance violations, Criminal Traffic, Non-Criminal Infraction, Misdemeanor and Traffic Infraction cases will be available at www.polkcountyclerk.net 24 hours after it is entered into the system.  Weiss states, "Comprehensive case information such as court proceedings, progress docket, disposition dates, case status and payment information is just a mouse click away.  We expect that the number of phone calls to our office seeking case information will decline, which is an important additional benefit to our operation."
